We enjoy
cruising and plan more in the future. But I’m kind of stunned by all the people
who seem to do nothing else, telling us that when we get off the ship, after a
mere 16 days, they will continue on for another 3+ weeks, for about a 40-day
cruise. Another couple talked about their 44-day cruise around South America;
others described their 75-day jaunts. BTW, in one picture, you can see how
small our ship is relative to a Celebrity model (and not one of their giants,
either).
Maybe
we’re supposed to be envious, but we think it’s kind of sad that you could be
gone for that long and no one would really miss you or need you enough that you
spend so much time talking about the next time you’ll be gone for 10-15% of the
year. We like to think that we mean enough to at least our family that
disappearing for that long would not just be an inconvenience but at least a
minor heartache. I know it would be more than a minor one for us.
So,
while we’re excited to see Cartagena, Colombia in a couple days, to traverse
the Panama Canal and hit other parts of the western side of North America,
while we will eat and drink well (and often) as we enjoy each other’s company,
while we look forward to meeting interesting fellow travelers (and a few who
are seemingly most interested in letting you know how interesting they are),
rejoining our family for a Thanksgiving that will likely be more meaningful
than others because of our absence is not an experience we’d trade for
anything.
