Cruise Diary, Day 2 | for everyone |

So, I think maybe there needs to be a license to take pictures. We’re in an IMAX 3-D movie with repeated, clear instructions that no flash photography is allowed. I propose modifying the instructions as follows: “Do not take flash photos. We have two reasons for this rule. First, it’s incredibly rude. Second, you’re trying to take a picture of a raw 3-D movie image, you moron. Your picture has zero chance of turning out.”
We just fulfilled a visit to a place we’ve always wanted to go: The Kennedy Space Center. Not disappointing at all, although we’ve had better tour guides. Still, the chance to share the history of these heroes (and the men and women of NASA are true heroes, in my book) was inspiring and the technology was awesome in the truest sense of the word. The picture shows Carolyn in front a full-size shuttle replica, to give you some idea of scale. She likes the way you can't see her!
Those who want to keep hacking away at government spending find NASA a convenient but, IMHO, shortsighted target. If they were rational I’d remind them that when we were the envy of the world, it was in great part because of the discoveries, both celestial and terran, of NASA scientists and engineers. So much of what we take for granted in our world today is either a direct or indirect result of the incredible technological advances that emanated from NASA projects.
